Let’s start with the hinge that we also put on the cover of this post: Diagonal. This hinge belongs to the only toilet seat that only needs a central hinge to function, and not the classic pair (one right and one left). Ceramica Cesame and its hinged toilet seat covers with tube (Americana)

Probably not an invention of the Sicilian company CESAME this type of hinge, it must however be credited with making it famous and highly appreciated by customers who have one of Cesame’s original toilet seats in their bathroom. The tube is not just an aesthetic detail, but has the function of stabilising, by keeping the two hinges together, the toilet seat on the toilet bowl as much as possible. This has two advantages. The first is when using the toilet, the feeling of sitting on something very stable and firm makes the ‘function’ extremely relaxing. The second is a construction merit. The two hinges held together by the tube are less subject to vibrations during the many openings and closings that the toilet seat cover makes during its life, and this leads to its long life (some customers have confided in us that the original product they bought years ago lasted twenty years!) CALLA series – its toilet seat and hinge

To talk about this hinge, let us start with the post: ”Modern sanitary ware, but with classic/antique shapes? How possible? Where can I find their toilet covers?” where we talked about this Ideal Standard sanitary fitting in these terms: “It is the classic lux series from Ideal Standard. It was the first series of the modern era in bathroom furniture to be classic, but “modern”. Essential and imposing at the same time: Calla. A prestigious and important line, created to give the idea of luxury with class. This series has been combined with a toilet seat cover with a specially made hinge that takes its name with a special chrome-plated tube. Yes, it is true, the tube hinge made it famous on the Cesame bathroom furniture market, but here it is a unique customisation of the original idea. The familiar tube diameter has been doubled (making it more massive and still luxurious) and the hinge arms end in very personal triangles that house three holes for the sealing screws. YOU&ME series its toilet seat and hinge

Hatria’s YOU&ME series has conquered the small sanitaryware market thanks to its innovative design. We have talked about it in many posts: ”Iconic sanitaryware: shapes, styles and colours ‘copied’ by the competitors. Apart from the fantastic shape of the toilet seat that we have seen, we now turn our attention to this last post where we talk about the particular centre distance of the toilet seat, which leads the YOU&ME toilet seat (in the version in white polyester-coated wood) that we had one of our trusted manufacturers make to have a particular hinge. We realised that the toilet seat’s centre distance of a few centimetres meant that the hinges were very close together. This weakened the toilet seat cover tremendously, and although it was made to the highest quality standards, it wore out quickly over time. We discussed this with one of our manufacturers and came up with a unique hinge (see photo): in practice, we spaced the anchoring arms away from the wooden part and anchored them to a rectangular-section bar, thus distributing all the operating friction on the metal and not on the wooden part of the toilet seat itself. That’s why our toilet seat is so successful on the market and according to customers (a lot of them) who have already bought it, its life is endless!
