The ten most popular oval shapes in sanitaryware series

The ten most popular oval shapes in sanitaryware series. Are all toilet seats 🚽 the same? Do universal toilet seats fit?

  Postato da:
Today we are talking about one of the most popular and most widely used shapes of sanitary ware and their covers throughout the history of bathroom design. Every company has presented at least one series of sanitary ware inspired by this geometric shape. Each one interprets it according to its own production style, which has maintained its formal purity, which has partially modified its initial DNA, giving shape to narrow ovals, elongated ovals…

Ideal Standard – PONTI Z series

One of the ceramics that created Ideal Standard’s market success. We saw it talking about its creator, the designer GIO PONTI. Ponti Z is a sanitary ware with a precise and regular oval shape. Made in 1954. The oval top rests on a body stretched forward, and seems almost suspended. So looking at it from the side, we can describe it. Compared to the style of the time revolutionary. This is how Ponti describes it: ‘Ponti, “Ideal Standard wanted me to study not new shapes for its appliances (which would have been just one more variation), but their true forms, that is, the forms that in their essentiality came close to those typical formal characteristics that definitively identify a thing’. The name is Ponti Z. You can find his toilet seat cover in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ Clik HERE ]

Ideal Standard – LINDA seriesIdeal Standard - serie LINDA

More oval than that! An elongated oval that almost creates a primary shape. In the post: ”Ideal Standard Linda Series is a primary form. A toilet seat cover formed by two parallel straight lines and two semicircles” we met Linda and the genius of its creator: Achille Castiglioni. Designed back in 1977, the oval part contained in a sphere rests on a parallelepiped with incredible formal harmony. All Linda toilet seat covers, in all colours: eu white, Ideal Standard white, champagne, blueberry, backdrop blue, mink, whisper green, whisper pink and also in the new thermosetting plastics (also soft-close with slow motion hinges) are available in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ Clik HERE ]

Pozzi Ginori – FANTASIA seriesPozzi Ginori - serie FANTASIA

Fantasia by Pozzi Ginori is one of the most beautiful oval series. Simple and stylish at the same time. Typical 80s line (HERE you can find other series from that glorious period for the bathroom world), was produced until about a decade ago, now replaced by the new Fantasia 2 version that has taken an almost rectangular shape as we have seen in the post: ”Sanitaryware series that have more than one edition/restyling. They change the shapes of the WCs but also the toilet seats. (part 1)”. Fantasia in the first version that you see in the picture here was very rounded and clearly the upper part designed by a perfect oval. A very popular feature from a formal point of view was the very slight forward inclination that the foot and toilet seat cover gave it. The link to the toilet seat cover for the Fantasia WC (first edition) is at the following link [ Clik HERE ]

Ceramica Catalano – LUCE seriesCeramica Catalano - serie LUCE

In our opinion, the series with which he became known to the general public ceramic Catalano is this, called Luce. A simple, soft and slender shape. A regular oval at the top, dimensionally centred. Both covers are available, both the thermoset version with wrap-around lid [ Clik HERE ], either the wooden version coated in white polyester at the following link [ Clik HERE ]. We also dedicated a video to the Luce Catalano toilet seat cover:

Ceramica Senesi – DONATELLO seriesCeramica Senesi - serie DONATELLO

Let’s take this sanitary Ceramica Senesi as an example of a narrow oval: Donatello. We have seen in the post: ”Narrow WCs and bidets. Measurements less than 35 cm in width. What are the toilet seat covers for these sanitary fixtures?” other ceramic series with this form: ELLISSE by Ideal Standard and PERLA by Dolomite. The toilet seat cover for this small and narrow sanitary ware is unusual in that it practically covers its oval shape perfectly, without even leaving the back of the bowl uncovered, as is the case with many other ceramic series and their toilet seats. Its toilet seats, including the champagne colour variant, can be found in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ Clik HERE ]

Hatria Ceramica – ERIKA seriesHatria ceramica - serie ERIKA

One of perhaps the simplest forms of this fantastic innovative company is called Erika produced by HATRIA. A careful eye for the style of the ceramic house cannot miss the company’s formal trademark. Marked at the bottom and back of the body by a raised L-shaped detail and a stepped edge at the top, it is unique and distinctive. In the upper part, a regular oval confirms its belonging to the category. WC covers in all material variants are available in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ Clik HERE ]

Ceramica GLOBO – LEI seriesCeramica GLOBO - serie LEI

One of the best-selling ceramic series GLOBO. The Lei series remained in the company’s catalogue for almost twenty years. Together with its competitors from the ’90s: TESI by Ideal Standard, SINTESI by Cesame and CLODIA by Dolomite shared a large share of the bathroom furniture market, HERE the link where we talk about them and that period. A wide, regular oval, embellished with a slight rise at the back that partly follows its circumference, makes it the star of its figure. All toilet seat covers for this sanitary ware, including the original model, can be found in the store aat the following link [ Clik HERE ]

Simas Ceramiche – BETA seriesSimas ceramiche - serie BETA

A very basic form, for a company (SIMAS) which in recent years has always stood out for the shapes of its truly avant-garde sanitary ware, but which is nevertheless appreciated for its very centred quality/price ratio for a Made in Italy product in these years of domination of products imported from the Far East and beyond. It is called Beta: a regular oval resting on a sanitary body with a somewhat dated style, but nevertheless proportionate to its price range and functions of use (perhaps second bathrooms or holiday homes or restaurants). The toilet seat variations available in the Sintesibagno store can be found at the following link [ Clik HERE ]

Cesame ceramiche - serie DORICA

The only oval-shaped series produced by CESAME is Dorica. Certainly seeing it together with the company’s legendary series: SINTESI, BELLA EPOQUE, ARETUSA, DECO’…there is little to tell, but nevertheless in its simplicity and inexpensiveness it has spread widely in the bathrooms of Italians and others. The toilet covers for this Cesame toilet, in the various versions, can be found in the Sintesibagno store at the following link [ Clik HERE ]

UNIVERSAL toilet seats SINTESIBAGNO – the oval shapeCopriwater UNIVERSALE SINTESIBAGNO - la forma ovale

Let’s close by talking about the so-called Universal toilet seats: this is a definition created to describe a toilet seat that, thanks to its shape (precisely oval) and eccentric/adjustable hinges (which, by rotating the anchoring discs, allow more fixing spacings and various positioning of the toilet seat itself, allowing it to take several measurements in length) is almost ‘suitable’ for any oval-shaped toilet. To explain the concept well, I will add this: the toilet seat cover that on the Sintesibagno website is called Universal it fits as a shape for all the WCs we have seen in this post, it mounts without a problem, the size well or poorly matches and so I can order it online knowing that I will have the compatible/adaptable toilet seat cover on my toilet, an almost optimal solution. True and correct! But if instead of getting the universal toilet seat for the same or slightly more money I could get the original or dedicated toilet seat, what would you do? I think we would all opt for the second solution. …but how do I find it among the thousands of models of toilet seat shapes and sizes out there? Try watching the following video:

Is it better to buy a universal toilet seat cover or ask Sintesibagno? So as mentioned in the video, we suggest you send us an email to info@sintesibagno.it or a WhatsApp message to 3341288978 with two pictures of your toilet seat and a few measurements and we will be able to help you choose the PERFECT toilet seat.
